Video Interview #3: Social Commerce

Facebook as a potential killer (if they ever develop a robust marketplace to match buyers and sellers), coupons, and how product companies can take advantage of deal sites such as Groupon. Groupon is, of course, the poster child for the newly emerging group-shopping business model. Social shopping allows businesses to reach larger pools of customers by offering discounts on goods and services to people who sign up for the bargains.

  1. Love the video, Sabir!

Facebook has a chance of becoming the next E-bay as well.

After all, the many to many relationships developed within the site can become commercial relationships. I imagine another tab on the profile page named “Shop” where users can upload products to sell and then they’d have status updates like “I’m selling a ..whatever… for $20”.

I’m curious about what business models they will experiment in the future coz from what I understand their current business model is just selling ads – which is not doing very well.
